We are excited to bring you this new instrumental self-study material that is designed to save teachers time and help students practice and learn music faster.

Overview:

We created this progressive collection of examples, exercises and melodies so students can practice at home while receiving help and guidance as needed. Music Prodigy Self-Study is perfect for teachers and students looking to supplement their in-class instruction with a robust interactive learning platform.

Music Prodigy’s immediate feedback allows band students to maximize practice at home and share that practice with their teacher remotely. It creates a bridge between teacher and student that allows the student to learn faster and the teacher to monitor and assist in that progress.

Who:

• Band 1 is for 1st-year students (e.g. 4th or 5th grade) or 2nd-year students who need more practice
• Choir All-State Prep Course is for advanced middle school or high school level students. They will be practicing sight-reading and preparing for state-level auditions

What:

• With a growing emphasis on educational curriculum to allow students perform self-evaluation, Music Prodigy has designed the Self-Study tool so music students can use to build skills, and practice technique. Students practice the exercises and receive real-time feedback.
• The exercises follow the common progression musical concepts as found across all the leading method books.
• Unlike anything else available, Music Prodigy's Self-Study automatically stores and reports your students' practice times and performance accuracy in an easy-to-read up-to-date gradebook.
• For example, Band, Part 1 is made of 36 units that gradually increase in difficulty and are designed to be spread out over the course of a year. It contains a collection of classic examples, exercises and melodies that music students can practice at home to build skill and technique. This program is focused on beginning instrumentalists and designed to help students master the fundamentals in a progressive and instructive environment. It does not teach hand placement and other basic skills, but rather allows students to quickly build on the fundamentals taught in the classroom while at home (or anywhere else) at their their convenience.

Where:

• Students will access the Self-Study content from within Music Prodigy. Music Prodigy can be used on any device, anytime, anywhere*.

Why:

• These units are used by students as practice homework for his or her instrument. Each student uses the Music Prodigy software to practice each piece of music, and receives immediate, real-time feedback on each individual note as well as the overall piece. They can practice each piece as many times as necessary. Each student’s practice history is tracked automatically by Music Prodigy so they can see their improvement over time. Additionally, they can submit a piece to their teacher for comments and remote instruction.

At the same time, by tracking progress of students within a gradebook dashboard, teachers are able to monitor practice and identify which students and content need extra attention. Teachers can listen to recorded practices, see reports of performances, and provide comments and suggestions for each piece. This supportive collaboration via the platform allows students to show up to class better prepared and with confidence.

What's next:

Once your course is set up, we will send you a welcome email that contains:

• A document outlining the specific course
• Instructions for students to download the software to their device and get started
• A unique course code which will allow students to access the pre-loaded content
• OPTIONAL - as a teacher you will also be able to download the software to your device if you’d like access to the gradebook grid dashboard, but this is not a requirement if you are satisfied just receiving daily emails.
